Founded in 2021, the Center for Violence Prevention Research (The Center) is a federally-funded, 501(c)(3) non-profit research institution with a mission to conduct rigorous research that identifies what works to prevent violence against women and children. The Center’s work is rooted in the belief that by conducting sound scientific research and effectively disseminating their findings among community partners, they can transform the ecosystems that prevent violence, protect women and children, and save lives.
Violence in our communities is a public health crisis– but it is a preventable one. The Center believes that to fully understand violence–why it happens, what it causes, and how to stop it before it starts, and to identify and scale up effective strategies for prevention, we need more research.
They conduct both original research and evaluations of existing programs, policies, and prevention strategies. They also examine existing and emerging data to better understand the root causes, characteristics, and impacts of violence. Additionally, they increase the impact of their work by bridging the gap between community stakeholders and scientists. Through strong community partnerships, their work informs strategic plans to improve programs, achieve better outcomes, and–most importantly–save more lives.
Every day, the Center for Violence Prevention Research is advancing the movement to end violence with the power to impact the lives of millions of women and children around the country. Through rigorous research, they are shining a light on what really works to prevent violence against women and children–and making their findings accessible so they can be put into action right away.
